Grand Rapids-based Online Publication Liquid Magazine, Which Is Run By Two Muskegon Natives, Caps An Impressive 2017 Showing With This Incredible Milestone

(Grand Rapids, MI) Grand Rapids-based online publication Liquid has surpassed 1,000,000 views, capping an impressive 2017 run of articles and superstar interviews with this incredible milestone. The brainchild of two Muskegon, MI natives – celebrity photographer and designer Doug Sims, and award-winning journalist and columnist Mr. Joe Walker, the pair created the site to showcase “the entertainment of art”.

Sims, the Editor In Chief of says he “never thought that far ahead as it relates to a number count, but I am very excited that we have reached this milestone! I am just grateful that people want to read our product and trust that we have quality content for them.”

Walker, the site’s managing editor and primary writer, says their journey with the site “was always about quality and building a solid reputation. We wanted to attract readers who felt they were a part of something hugely entertaining and informative, but also respectable. We felt the same way about artists we featured. Reaching this million the way we have reinforces the fact that iconic artists like Chaka Khan, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Ice Cube made the right choice to associate with us.”

Launched on July 6, 2014, followed an outstanding 2016 by going above and beyond in 2017. The site published an all-star tribute to Cube during a Black History Month run that saw music stars Elle Varner, James A. Worthy, and Fred Hammond appear in engaging conversations.

They also published interviews with The Voice season 11 winner Sundance Head and Olympic gold medalist and Dancing With the Stars champion Laurie Hernandez;  covered ESPN’s espnW Women + Sports: Chicago, Jazzy Jeff at The Intersection, Motown The Musical at DeVos Place, Kat Williams at Van Andel Arena, Alexander Zonjic’s Shoreline Jazz Festival, and charity concert Project Cypher IV; and dazzled readers with special features Top Dance Tracks Anthology, Art of Rock & Soul, and 1st Annual Royal Rumble Q&A and Potluck.

Sims suggests their outlook for beyond surpassing 1,000,000 views in 2017 is expansion. “Although we have covered some very high-profile people and events, we still have a lot more work to do,” he says. “I would like to incorporate more technology and video into our content along with apps and more interactive features.”

Walker adds, “This 1 million views has us thinking and planning with increased purpose for 2018. Grand Rapids is booming so we have to boom with it while also continuing our national and international reach ‘from Grand Rapids to the world’. We outgrew our shoes. We’ve got work boots on now. Nice ones, too.”
