Songwriters & Poets founder JA Thueson says singer/songwriter Khadijah Moon “makes even the unabashed pay attention”. We agree. In 2015 she continued to command eyes and ears with her acclaimed single “hunger”, and many stellar live performances.
After a stroke claimed the life of her music collaborator and friend in 2012, Moon turned heartbreak into passionate, groundbreaking creativity. From rocking Showtime at The Apollo to being awarded 2015 Individual Artist Award from Maryland State Art Council, Moon’s career could be one worth following for years to come.
Liquid A&E: What was your favorite song of 2015?
Khadijah Moon: My favorite song from my own discography was my song “hunger”. My favorite song by another artist was Alessia Cara’s song “Here”.
Liquid A&E: What was your favorite movie?
Khadijah Moon: I enjoyed ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ this year; great action movie with both a male and female hero lead. More movies need to take note of that
Liquid A&E: What’s the television show you couldn’t stop watching?
Khadijah Moon: I have an unhealthy obsession with the show ‘Z Nation’ starring Kellita Smith who used to be Wanda on The Bernie Mack Show. I love that show!
Liquid A&E: What album got the most play?
Khadijah Moon: D’Angelo got all the time in my disc drive this year. I can listen to “Really Love” on repeat for a 45 minute drive.
Liquid A&E: Who did you Google the most?
Khadijah Moon: [Laughs] I don’t think I’m supposed to tell that. I actually don’t Google one person in particular. I Google movies on Wikipedia.
Liquid A&E: What was the most shocking thing you heard all year?
Khadijah Moon: “No indictment” in the Tamir Rice shooting. Heartbreaking and soul-wrenching.
Liquid A&E: In what way did you evolve?
Khadijah Moon: In the vein of Marvin Gaye, Nina Simone, Curtis Mayfield and other notable soul acts, I have begun to write more socially conscious works and use my platform to address things happening in our world besides just things pertaining to love and sex.
Liquid A&E: What was your biggest blessing?
Khadijah Moon: I enjoyed winning a Maryland State individual artist award for my music work and I enjoyed performing in many festivals this year, including the National Cherry Blossom Festival. It led to some opportunities that may bring my music to a wider audience in 2016.
Liquid A&E: What can we expect from you in 2016?
Khadijah Moon: Some of my music will be licensed to appear in some of your favorite shows, so be on the lookout for that. I also have an amazing opportunity I can’t talk about right now but hopefully all will be known in 2016. Of course, I will be releasing more music, including free downloads produced with my genius producer, Ben Beta.
Liquid A&E: And forget what People Magazine says; who was the sexiest person of the year?
Khadijah Moon: Michael B. Jordan and Nate Parker are two of the biggest hunks Hollywood has to offer. They have everyone beat.| By Mr. Joe Walker
