(Grand Rapids, MI) ArtPrize Nine has begun and Sims Photography owner and creator Douglas Sims is competing in it!

Sims, a renowned professional photographer for more than 30 years, created a piece titled “Veteran Assistance” which can be viewed at Rockwell Republic located at 45 S. Division Ave. in Grand Rapids. You can vote for his entry using code #66283 from September 20 – October 8.

Before attending The Art Institute of Dallas, Sims served in the US Army. During his stint he was deployed to the Persian Gulf for Operation: Desert Storm.

Sims titled his entry “Veteran Assistance”, which depicts a homeless veteran and her child, because “people transitioning from military to civilian life, it can be difficult,” he says. “Some veterans may have special needs, some may have been in war and need a longer period to deal with finding a job, a home or some place to regroup. Some veterans never make the transition and find themselves on the street looking for assistance due to lack of programs, lack of information and or lack of assistance.”

Be sure to stop by Rockwell Republic for a chance to meet and chat with Doug Sims, view his incredible piece “Veteran Assistance”, and cast your vote.
