Art 101: LiquidAE.com’s 10 Best Events of the Year [Best of 2017]

LiquidAE.com would not have surpassed 1,000,000 views in 2017 had we simply sat reclusively indoors behind our computers. Our team was invited to attend a tremendous number of exceptional events over the past 12 months. And while we weren’t able to attend them all, we were honored to take in, cover, and enjoy as many of them as we could. Of all those we were present for which of them were the best?

Here are LiquidAE.com’s 10 Best Events of the Year!

 

HHF_Red and MethWest Michigan Hip-Hop Festival at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, MI (April 22, 2017)
Grand Rapids, MI got the chance to experience some real legends of hip-hop music at their finest on April 22, 2017 at Van Andel Arena. West Michigan Hip-Hop Festival took place that night, much to the raucous delight of thousands in attendance. Presented by WSNX and featuring Busta Rhymes, Lil Kim, Redman, Method Man, Scaface, Too Short, La The Darkman, and hosted by Mr. 1204, LiquidAE.com was on hand the entire time. The concert was awesome, the energy was nonstop and everyone had a great time.

Sports network espnW hosted the 2nd annual espnW: Women + Sport, Chicago from Revel Fulton Market in the heart of Chicago’s trendy West Loop area. A companion of the yearly 3-day espnW: Women + Sports Summit, this one-day event united leading executives, influencers, and athletes to inspire women in sports through engaging keynote speakers and panels. The list of persons included gymnast and 2016 Olympic gold medalist Laurie Hernandez, U.S. Soccer legend and author Julie Foudy, comedian and actress Retta, national soccer player and World Cup Champion Christen Press, professional beach volleyball player and Olympian April Ross, Track & Field athlete and Olympian Tori Bowie, and “SportsCenter” anchor and host of “Be Honest” Cari Champion. Columnist Sarah Spain of espnW served as event host. LiquidAE.com was on hand the entire day.

The official afterparty of “Irish on the Ionia” was headlined by a person considered as one of the very best DJs ever, “The Magnificent” DJ Jazzy Jeff. LiquidAE.com and LiquidLoungeRadio.com were on hand to witness the packed audience whipped into an energetic frenzy.

The 4th annual charity concert created by hip-hop artist and philanthropist HighTyde raised $3500 for 1-year-old Sebastian Boice and his family on May 20, 2017. Taking place at Shakespeare’s Lower Level in Kalamazoo, MI, and sponsored by Townsquare Media, 103.3 WKFR, and 104.9 The EDGE, the young boy from Battle Creek, MI diagnosed with Dandy Walker and Hydrocephalus had the best seat in the house. Sebastian and his parents were the guests of honor for a show everyone who attended is certain to remember forever. LiquidAE.com was there the entire night to witness amazing artists slay the stage along with a few heartwarming special presentations.

 

alexanderzonjicblue_900Alexander Zonjic’s 4th Annual Shoreline Jazz Festival in Muskegon, MI (August 24 – 27, 2017)
Moments after Peabo Bryson wrapped his set as the 4th Annual Shoreline Jazz Festival’s final act on August 27, 2017, its creator Alexander Zonjic took the Heritage Landing stage to thank everyone for another great weekend in Muskegon, MI. “We’ll see you again here next year!” he exclaimed. Everyone cheered. Over the weekend LiquidAE.com was there to see the stage also graced by Boney James, Organissimo, Joey Sommerville, Zonjic joined by Jeff Lorber and Steve Cole, and Keiko Matsui, John Gist, Yancyy, the legendary Gerald Albright, and smooth jazz icon Alex Bugnon.

Motown The Musical played May 2, 2017 at DeVos Performance Hall in Grand Rapids, MI, presented by Broadway Grand Rapids. LiquidAE.com was seated in the packed audience. The spectacle of this Broadway production that had been lifting our spirits since its opening number relinquished its glitz for the grit of human nature. We were all impacted. That’s the power of masterful storytelling. The production was aesthetically and audibly brilliant, its vivid eye-popping colors encompassed the entirety of DeVos’ stage. Its more than 50 performed songs, all courtesy of The Legendary Motown Catalog had everyone joyously singing along during and well-after the curtains closed and the music stopped.

 

Prime 1Prime Music Festival at Adado Riverfront Park in Lansing, MI (September 15 – 16, 2017)
Following the success of their Breakaway Music Festival in Grand Rapids, MI (Belknap Park, August 25 – 26 2017), Prime Social Group and MIEntertainment presented PRIME from Adado Riverfront Park The hugely successful 2-day outdoor concert, which packed the park with more than 12,000 fans, was an extravaganza of excitement, energy, and fun. Prime boasted a stellar lineup of Machine Gun Kelly, Rosco P, Diamond Jones, Prince Fox, Playboi Carti, Quin XCII, Cheat Codes, Waka Flocka Flame, Pigpen, Vadr, Jakyll|Hyde, Packy, Michael Christmas, Blackbear, Joyryde, Migos, and Marshmello who closed out the event in epic fashion.

 

Pop Evil_grandPop Evil at The Machine Shop in Flint, MI (August 4, 2017)
Top-selling rock group Pop Evil played 2 sold out shows at legendary venue The Machine Shop Concert Lounge in Flint, MI. LiquidAE.com was there for the second show. If you were one of the lucky ticket holders you got to see one heck of a show. After opening sets from No Resolve and Avalon Black, Pop Evil made everyone in the packed house leap completely out of their heads. A #1 Billboard charting band born in West Michigan, Pop Evil have a rich history performing at The Machine Shop, and they turned it all the way up that night.

‘The Voice’ season 11 winner Sundance Head is doing more with his victory than trying to sell records. The Texas native is building relationships with his listeners while growing his signature sound dubbed “soul country”. “We’re a 3-piece, and we’re just three guys playing instruments,” Sundance told LiquidAE.com. “We just play real rooted songs and give honest performance of each song. I like to talk to the crowd and get to know the people out there, and make friends.” We were there at Tequila Cowboy watching Sundance and company touch the crowd with each tune they played. It was captivating.

A3C Music Festival & Conference is one of the biggest annual hip-hop events there is, and it was certainly one of the best attractions of 2017. It took place in Atlanta from October 4-8, and LiquidAE.com was there for all its sensational offerings. |
